JOB DETAILS:
Research Assistant TOR
Women Gaining Ground (WGG) is a new Global South-led consortium of three organizations with deep experience in feminist leadership, movement-building, advocacy and working with marginalized groups: CREA as the lead organization; Akili Dada; and International Women's Rights Action Watch Asia Pacific (IWRAW). WGG is collaborating in a five-year programme (2021-2025), and works in five priority countries: Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.

WGG builds the capacity and transformative leadership of young women and girls and women with disabilities (WWDs). WGG has contracted a team of consultants to conduct a Mid Term Review (MTR) of the program in the five program countries.

The MTR consultants are seeking the services of research assistants (one (1) each for Rwanda, Kenya Uganda, India, and Bangladesh) to support the data collection exercise.

Responsibilities

• Maintain quality standards to preserve the integrity and safety of data and findings.
• Schedule and conduct interviews
• Select a place to conduct interviews and focus group discussions ensuring consent from participants as well as confidentiality and privacy.
• Transcribe/prepare interview notes.
• Debrief regularly with the research team.
• Write a summary data collection report.

Requirements and skills
• Proven work experience as a Research Assistant or similar role
• Excellent administrative skills
• Knowledge of qualitative research methods - especially in conducting key informant interviews and focus group discussions.
• Previous experience conducting research among young women including those with disabilities will be given preference.
• Fluency in oral and written English and at least one other language - Hindi / Bangla / Kinyarwanda / Kiswahili
• Ability to work within tight deadlines and with minimum supervision.
• Excellent time management skills
• A degree in the field related to the study is preferred.

Duration and Fees
We expect this assignment to take a minimum of 5 days of consultancy, including virtual training by the MTR team. The Research Assistant will be paid USD 100 (USD One Hundred Only) per day for the assignment. Travel expenses will be provided upon approval, and based on actuals. The final payment will be made upon satisfactory completion of work and submission of an invoice.
